This is a tour where you experience many different aspects of Icelandic nature. We start the tour with a day at the black beach. We ride along soft trails through a grand wilderness. In the nature reserve, Thórsmörk, we are riding in one of the oldest forest where Guðmundur will tell you many stories about the surroundings. We also ride into the mighty ravine Stakkholtsgjá where the water have shaped the mountains during many thousands of years.
We live together in Húsadalur in cozy huts with a toilets, showers and natural hot spring.
Day by day:
Day 1 - Arrival day
Pick up in Reykjavik BSÌ at 17.00. We have dinner together and plan our tour together. The farm also has a hot tub and sauna.
Day 2 - On the beach and up to the glacier
The first riding day we are having two nice riding tours with lunch in between.
We ride to the black beach of the Atlantic Ocean and if we are lucky we might see some seals.
The second riding tour we head to the mountains to meet the mighty Eyjafjallajökull.
After a ride it is always good to relax in a warm water so the hot tub will be ready for you.
Day 3 - Riding to Thórsmörk
We ride from Skálakot along the mountains Eyjafjöll.
Passing the famous waterfall Seljalandsfoss where it is possible to bo behind. We continue on good soft riding path and slowly leave the civilization. We cross some small rivers before we untack the horses and jump in to the truck who will take us over the final river Krossá. The horses will manage them selves over the river and we soon reach Húsadalur, where we have a good dinner buffet in the restaurant and a well earned rest.
Day 4 - Riding in the nature reserv
Morning is coming in Húsadalur and it is time for riding. We ride the day in two stages. The first one we spend in the forest and the afternoon in the ravine Stakkholtsgjá.
We are riding in a area called Almenningar where the farmers put there sheep for eating good grass in spring- and summertime. Guðmundur knows the name of all mountains and valleys and there are as many stories as names.
In the afternoon we ride into the magnificent ravine called Stakkholtsgjá. After a nice day we enjoy a good meal in the restaurant and spend the night in the same cabin as the night before.
Day 5 - Riding to Skálakot
It is the last riding day and we ride on the same beautiful riding path as when we entered Thórsmörk. By this time you know your horses well and we are riding in a good tempo
We are for instance stopping by the Old Bridge who was in use until 2000´s century. We end the tour at the farm with traditional Icelandic barbecue, sauna and hot tub.
